    mythtv/wintv pvr usb2

i just installed karmic koala and i had a wintv pvr2 usb2 tv tuner i wanted to use. I have never used it but lost the disk it came with. I downloaded and installed mythtv i was wondering how i install the driver for the wintv. I downloaded a file but it just consists of more folders and files inside that i can't do anything with. Any help would be appreciated!

The driver for your device may already be in the kernel, but you may need to install firmware. Please list the output of these commands. Use "code" tags to surround the info when posting it.
    Code:
    lsusb
    Code:
    lsmod | grep pvrusb2
    Code:
    dmesg

    More info:

This device should work out-of-the-box. It is an analog receiver, so it isn't any good for over-the-air broadcasts in the USA. Here are some links concerning the card.

Use the code tags to surround the text. This is done by clicking the # sign above the message input screen.

It is interpreting some characters as "Smilies", and smilies are images. You don't have enough posts yet to do this, so you get an error. That is why I said to use the "code" tags.

You should be able to set this up in MythTV. Follow the MythTV instructions that I linked to earlier. If you have never setup MythTV before, be prepared for a steep leaning curve.

MythTV is for recording. If all you want to do is watch TV, use TVtime or Kaffeine. Like I already said, this is useless in the USA, as it is only analog.
Those links dont provide information on how to set up myth tv...
Really?, what do you call this? (from the MythTV wiki link that I gave)
    MythTV Configuration

Once the drivers are installed and appear to be working, you can configure the device in MythTV. For the most part, you should be able to treat the encoder as if it were a Hauppauge WinTV PVR-x50/500 card: Tell MythTV that it's an MPEG encoding card, not an "Analog V4L capture card." The User Manual:Detailed configuration Backend section of this wiki describes MythTV backend configuration in more detail.

One caveat: On my system, the backend reported that it couldn't detect any MPEG decoding devices. Despite this fact, entering the device name (/dev/video1 in my case) and proceeding with configuration worked.

Some systems do not provide root access to the mythtv-setup program, and as a result, you may not be able to access the device while in the Capture Card setup screen. To fix this, open a terminal and access mythtv-setup by typing sudo mythtv-setup instead, after which the device should be recognized.

In the frontend, you can tweak your Recording Profiles in the usual way.
I went to the myth tv setup and well i'm just lost.
I guess it's time to put on your thinking cap and learn something new. If you really want to use MythTV, maybe you should have installed Mythbuntu instead. It does some of the setup for you. Here is a link to setting up MythTV in Mythbuntu 8.10, it should still have relevant info.
