I can't get VLC to recognize my webcam audio
I am running Linux Mint 8, and I am trying to get VLC 1.0.2 to recognize and capture video and audio from my HP KQ246AA webcam.
I entered ls /dev/video* and ls /dev/audio* in the terminal, and it tells me that my webcam devices are /dev/video0 and /dev/audio1. So I opened VLC and selected media > open capture device. I set the capture mode to Video for Linux 2 and entered those device names in the video and audio device selection boxes. The video works fine, but it gives me this error for the audio:
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'alsa:///dev/audio1'. Check the log for details.
Am I doing something wrong?
Incidentally, I tried looking at the log file, but I cannot find it. Does anyone know where it is?
