Media player for RH9

Coming from Windows, I'm used to using the media player that comes with it being able to play all types of media. So far, in Linux, I have found XMMS for the MP3 ability, but am yet to find a good video player that can play mpeg, wmv, avi, etc.. Anyone have any suggestions?

RH9 should come with Xine, or if it doesn't, you can always download it. Some people also swear by mplayer. Click on the name of the app for their respective homepages.

I am using FC2 and in the xine website http://xinehq.de/index.php/releases
which one I should download?

Since you're running FC2, I'd say the easiest way to do that is this:
1. Go to http://www.fedorafaq.org/.
2. Follow their instructions on replacing your yum.conf file.
3. Run "yum install xine".

Then you ought to be good to go, even though I recommend mplayer instead of xine.

They both run about as fast and reliable, if that's what you mean. I just like mplayer better since it doesn't clutter you with options that aren't immediately necessary, and it doesn't clutter your screen with windows. It's just cleaner, simply. They both have about the same movie playing capabilities.

I reccomend installing mplayer from source, but you can pick whichever.
I like mplayer because, as said before, it's cleaner, but also because
- it tends to work more often than xine, especially with video output modes other than xv
- most common commands can be excuted with single keys during playback (brightness, contrast, playback speed, subtitle language, volume, seeking (10sec, 1 min, 10min), hue, saturation, frame-dropping, etc.)

With eiter Xine or MPlayer, you'll want to download the codecs from MPlayer's site in order to play the other formats.
Also, MPlayer is faster than Xine in my experiance, so if that makes a difference to you, then use it.
