Doom3 asks for CD Key every time

I downloaded the Doom3 Linux files and ran them (I think) as described elsewhere on this forum (I ran the installer from root), but now whenever I start the game it asks for the CD key. When I enter the key, it says that it appears correct and will not ask again, but then it does ask again the next time I run the game. I can click Cancel and it continues, but I suspect that multiuser mode won't work (I never use it anyway). Is this happening because I am not running the game from root? Must I always run from root? This doesn't seem right. BTW, I did run it from my local username and created a saved game, and that at least seemd to work.

On a related note, how do I update (patch) the Linux Doom3? There is an automatic patch installer for Windows. Is there a similar patch file for Linux?

Do *NOT* run any applications as root unless you must. I haven't had this issue, but I have noticed that whenever I edit my Doom3.cfg file inside my /home/username/.doom3/base directory it asks me again for the CD key. I'd check the permissions on all the files in that directory to make sure that they aren't read only. If that's the case then the client is trying to write your CD-key to the file and not able to, thus it keeps asking you for it.. Just an idea.

You can download the newest client files from here usually. Just download the .sh file and run it. You don't actually have to run it as root, though it wants you to.
