KDE System Sounds A No-Go
Every other sound program will work, if I have them using ALSA, my sound card does not seem to like OSS, at least in XMMS. Anyways I can't not for the life of me get KDE System Notifications to work. What sound server does it use and how do I get it properly configured to work?

I had this same problem. I "fixed" it by turning off the auto-suspend feature of Arts (the KDE sound system in the Control Center).
I think I developed this problem when switching to ALSA. Fortunately, with ALSA, auto-suspend is not needed, since ALSA seems to allow more than one source.
