    Enemy territory Game runs but appears to crash


    I have downloaded and installed Enemy territory.

    I have also installed the latest NvIdia graphics drivers on my Debian system, and set them up - in fact the nvidia logo appears when I boot into x now.

    However...

    When I run ET from the console it starts doing something then takes me out to the gnome x windows launcher.

    This happens too quick for me to be able to read the console text.

    Any ideas or pointers on what may be wrong here?

    This seems to be your error:

    Is you X server able to run any other OpenGL games (TuxRacer, Cannon Smash, etc.)?

    Yes, just downloaded, installed and player tuxracer which appears to work fine, also the glxgears demo works fine as well.

    Any other suggestions are welcome!

    I should also point out that Unreal Tournament 2003 installs and runs fine (well sound a little jumpy at times).

    Maybe the install didn't go well. Try reinstalling. I know its such a Windows thing to do, but ya never know.

    in your x config file change it from 16 color bit depth to 24 and restart X

    I had the same problem. It seems that ET won't run if the current desktop size is less than the maximum supported size in your XF86Config-4 / xorg.conf.

    Since I run my desktop at 1024, but Ubuntu's setup generated me a config file with 1600 as the max, I had to change:
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1600x1200" "1182x864" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "720x400" "640x480"
    EndSubSection

    Into this:
    SubSection "Display"

    It works fine for me now.
