    Is it normal to hear only the front speakers using snd-emu10k1?

    I have a 4.1 speaker system, and I have no ideea how to make my 5.1 sound card work like a 4.1 one.

    there should be an option (near the end) when you run
    Code:
    alsamixer
    to unmute surrond sound or full duplex or rear speakers (i forget the name)

    I removed /etc/asound.conf to mute everything, and after I rebooted the system, I played with alsamixer a while... and now it works fine

    There is still a problem... the master volume controls only the front speakers... why?
