    Ok, my turn...

I've installed doom 3, and alsa and best give me silence (which is a problem for me when something tries to sneak up on me... )

however, switching to OSS outputs an (irritating) repetitive white noise (Pfft pfft pfft etc...) over and over again, and also locks up my menu initialization so that the game no longer loads.

I don't want to keep dying because i'm a deaf marine, can you help?

    thanks

    bill
