mpg321, MPD with various frontends (including a couple for console), and mp3blaster come to mind
Maybe the problem is more that you're running such a heavy distribution on such old hardware, rather than the MP3 decoder or player being deficient.Michael Salivar

XMMS is pretty small, and I guess you can call it damn small cos it is in damn small linux.
