No sound while playing .avi file
Hello, I'm using Arch right now and I'm very happy with it. I updated everything, rebooted, ran alsaconf and my sound worked while playing the Beatles. I then boot into X and download an avi file of The Broken and try to play it. I get video but no sound.. the site does require Divx so that could be the problem so I see two solutions here: one is to install divx4linux or two would be to install the necessary codecs.
I have tried installing divx4linux by cd-ing into the directory and running sh install.sh under sudo and nothing comes up, it just goes through and I get another prompt sign again, and I'm not for sure how to run the thing, it isn't added in KDE and I'm not for sure how to run it let alone know if it's even installed. I'm not quite for sure what codecs to install either. I used to use the K-Lite Codec package in Windows but I dunno what to do now. Any sound/video advice? Codecs, apps, anything? Xine comes with lots of codecs I thought but even Xine will not output the sound.
oh and yes I did configure alsamixer and I unmuted the video section, I know that's going to come up so I figured I should mention it now. Thanks for the help.Registered Linux user #393103

If you want divx4linux, pacman can install it. You should probably update your new install if you haven't already with:
Then install divx4linux with:Code:pacman -Syu
Code:pacman -S divx4linux

Thanks for the quick reply Ozar, I will try that out (Pacman is so cool
)
Unfortunately I come back here to say disregard the thread, I used aumix and now everything is fine.. alsamixer is meh.
But thanks again for the divx4linux.Registered Linux user #393103

Glad you are up and running.
Yep, pacman is cool... it took me about a week or two to realize that I like it way better than debian's apt-get.
