blender can be annoying at times; however, if you work through their short manual you will be rendering in no time...its extremely powerful and very fast

There's Povray, which I've never used. Also something for Gnome called TrueVision (http://truevision.sourceforge.net/), and I think the current version of KOffice has one.

blender is great, yes i agree, it is hard to start... but not impossible... download some of whitebeards video tutorials... they are excilent... they cover alot, and he is great at teaching...blender works on both win and lin: www.blender.org
thats what modeling is all about... you kinda have to make them (unless your good a pythan and make a script that automatically helps you)... it's not that hard... making a gutter is very simple compaired to other stuff...Yeah I'll work with Blender more, but know I need to know if there are any good terrain editors or can you make terrain in blender like fields and streets and objects and stuff like that
little tip from me, another person who is learning blender... start with the small stuff... like try and make a plastic cup, then a firepoker... any unanamous objects, and move yourself up... it really really helps... i tried with the big stuff, but you miss all the detail and stuff like that...
if you want, i could post some of me stuff, i finished a 3D speaker the other week which i used for a physics project... :PGAH!!!
