i emerged version 0.2.2b (the latest stable ver in the portage tree) and then rsync'ed it according to the instructions in the readme.. but when i tried to query the master server, it didn't find any servers.. (i wonder if maybe that was because i was doing that at 4am EST)... gonna try again a bit later..

You probably downloaded the right file. Now before you unpack it, create a directory called, in example legends(no matter what name you pick), unpack the legends package to that directory.
There should be then a file called LinLegends. Make sure it's executable and run it. And then join a server.
If it doesn't work, download this file: http://hosted.tribalwar.com/legends/....0b_Linux_Core
and follow the instructions above.
