    webcams for linux

guys i am just curious. it is said that linux is able to replace windows. it is aggreed to some extent but some very common functions like webcams are not supported by any messenger over linux or any linux OS it self as per my information. y it is like so ? is it due to some technical issues of linux (that must not be the case) or simply no one is interested to go in this direction. for me this thing is very pinching as i want to switch to linux but i cant do so just due to this problem. is there any solution to this thing?

gnomemeeting does support webcams just like netmeeting. There are also several webcam applications at freshmeat.net
