The sound in Enemy Territory is terrible
EDIT: Note, this is not common to ET, the sound on Q3 is also strange, in the same way.
Hey,
I downloaded ET (and True Combat: Elite).
When I first ran it sound never worked at all, I found out I need to type:
echo "et.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
This somehow makes the sound work in-game, however, it's not perfect.
I first notice a problem when I run ET and the background music on the game seems really fast (like when you fast-forward a tape) and this happens in-game too.
All sounds seemed to be played in a much shorter time period, bullets don't sound like bullets (as far as games go), the sounds players make (i.e. in CS it'd be "Fire in the hole!", "Enemy spotted", "Need backup", "Lock and Load", etc. etc.) aren't recognizable, it sounds like the smurfs.
So, does anybody know how I can get sound to work properly on ET?
If anybody needs any information about my PC don't hesistate in asking.
Thanks
Tom
EDIT:
Here's what the terminal prints when I run ET:
Code:------- sound initialization ------- ------------------------------------ ----- Sound Info ----- sound system is muted 1 stereo 32768 samples 16 samplebits 1 submission_chunk 44100 speed 0x0x481cd000 dma buffer No background file. ---------------------- Sound memory manager started Sys_LoadDll(/home/tom/.etwolf/etmain/ui.mp.i386.so)... What chipset is your sound card? Is it onboard or PCI?

My sound card is onboard my headphones.
SpeedLink Medusa 5.1 USB.
Sound in XMMS is fine (though some songs play strange, despite how the actual audio files are okay).

this happens all the time with id games...
I know how to fix it for Quake 4 and Doom 3... Quake III games are a bit older.
Here's the fix for Quake III, it may or may not work for ET, good luck!

And the whole world loves it when you make that sound.
