    hmm... sounds like redhat 9 doesn't include support for AC97 hardware. it should though. try running something from the command line that makes sounds (like a music player such as xmms etc) and post the output. it should have an error message when it tries to play sound.
    Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
    Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
    Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?
