    Okay, I'm not familiar with ubuntu or that particular nvidia card. It's a fairly recent card isn't it?
    Are you sure the correct driver package is the nvidia-glx-legacy?
    I suspect legacy=old card
    Check if glxinfo returns direct rendering:yes
    Does glxgears return a decent framerate? Not sure what that card is capable of, but it shouldn't be less than 1500 FPS probably.

    Usually I get my drivers directly from nvidia, but not sure if that works with ubuntu.

    You're going to want nvidia-kernel-source and nvidia-glx.

    Could you tell me what the hardware is in your computer; graphics card model, cpu, ram...etc.

    Also try going here
    this will give you the minimum system requirements to run Americas Army on Linux.

    sn0dig

    Please try this
    <DISPLAY=:0.0; export display>

    Now try
    <glxinfo>

    Do you now get a printout instead of an error?
    If yes check the printed list for this line.
    "direct rendering:yes"

    Now try
    <glxgears>
    If those drivers are installed properly you should be getting well over 1000 FPS

    If all this looks good, AND you installed the packages zelmo recommended, try running the game again.

    <anything in here is a command>

    Sorry sn0dig, don't know why this is happening. Here's how I see it:

    The first errors you posted are exactly what shows up when the nvidia drivers are not installed properly.

    Running
    DISPLAY=<hostname>:0.0; export display
    effectively kills everything that needs 3D acceleration, or at least it did on my machine.

    After running this you said "I get an error now"
    So did I, running
    DISPLAY=:0.0; export display
    set the enviroment back to normal in my case

    Maybe something here helps?

    Look at method 1 and notice the changes made to xorg.conf
