    I tried to run Gaim but it says i need some ssl support to install :$ m noob which packages shud i check or install.
    m using SuSE 10 and Gnome.

    any other messenger that i shud try

    Myself I prefer GAIM for IM. Try installing it through yast instead of some RPM, it should then install ssl and all other needed dependencies for you.

    Asking "which program is best" is about like asking "which distro is best" or "which flavor of ice cream will be my favorite"? In other words, no one can determine that but you.

    GAIM is an option you might consider, but there are dozens of messengers you might like better. Kopete comes with KDE, aMSN has some followers. Google search Linux IM clients. You'll find plenty.

    gaim and kopete are on the suse 10 install cd's but not necessarily installed by default. they're easiest to install because you can just go to YaST and install them from the cd.
