Anyway To Play WMV on Linux ?

    Hello,

First before i begin i know that that WMV is a microsoft standard, but the fact is i still have some WMV films which i would like to play on linux, here is what i have tried to do to overcome the problem:

    1. Obviously i first tried to change the format, to .avi but when i do this i again only see the film for about a minute and then it causes and error ( dont ask what kind) but overall it did not do much.

    2. I downloaded a program that claimed it could play wmv files on Linux i think it was here http://www.medium-player-download.de...layer-wmv.html

If there are any other suggestions i am all ears.

    Best Regards

mplayer plays all wmv movies and any other movie format you can think up:

    http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage

I strongly recommend you download the source code and compile it as the rpm that suse distributes is severly broken and can only play a few file formats

asf (.asf, .wmv, .wma) - Window Media Video 8,9

    Hi,

To play .wmv .asf, etc in Xine you only have to download windows codecs from
    http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/dload.html
to folder /usr/lib/win32 (default for Xine). If you don't have this folder, create it an then put in it all files of "essential codecs package". This only package is enough.

    Regards

I still reccomend MPlayer over Xine.
If you don't like MPlayer that much, use VLC instead.

    And about Streaming?

Hi to all! And what about Streaming? Do they (Xine and MPlayer) can work with these formats of streaming? (asf, wma, wmv). For example, to view an embedded clip in a Web Page?
What about RealPlayer for Windows? or VLC?

    Thanks very much!!
