I've been wondering if anyone had either of these games running, or have run in the past, on a 64bit linux box?...

I assume you mean with WINE or Cedega?

WINE & Cross Over

I've not had much luck with WINE/Cedega/CrossOver in 64-bit Linux. Is there a particular reason you want to use 64-bit?

It bothers me having a 64bit proc and not using it to its fullest. Its an ocd thing I guess.
- 06-28-2006 #6Well, technically speaking, even if you're using a 64-bit Linux kernel, you're still not really using your processor to its fullest. All the 64-bit software out there right now for Linux (AFAIK) is simply a straight recompile of the 32-bit stable branch, not a rewrite, therefore none of the new registers and instruction sets available with the X86_64 architecture are being used.

hey, techiemoe. What distro you running now? I saw you gave SUSE, Cent, Mandriva and Vector all 4s. What do you recommend for a AMD 64bit running on a Gateway 7405GX laptop?
- 06-28-2006 #8Let me first say that my rating system is based on what I personally look for in a distro, and that might not translate to you. The "which distro" question is mostly subjective. If you can give me a set of well-defined criteria for what you want/expect from an operating system I might be able to narrow down some suggestions.

Good point. Well, ok here are my criteria:
wifi support with my lame broadcom (probably based off ndiswrapper & windows .inf)
dvd, avi, mpeg, divx, vcd playback
mp3 playback
vcd/dvd burning and copying
cd burning (audio and data)
some photo editing
support for my hp photosmart printer
sync-ability with my palm and mp3 players
I also use Wine and Cross Over for a few of my little girl's games. Although she does prefer gecompris and tux paint.
I guess mainly the media stuff. I plan on using it on my laptop and then setting up a htpc with myth tv later one once I've gotten familiar with the distro.
I was looking over CentOS and I've never seen it before, but it looks like a solid distro.
