if you installed xine-ui you can start it with xine and get a fancy GUI and everything, but if you didn't you must always start it commandline.

The Xine files are to compiled so a C compiler should be present in the system for installing it Go to add/remove option and the go to prgramming tools and from that Select and install gcc compiler
