Problem with some AVI files and codecs

Does anyone know how I could remedy this problem?

When I try to play an avi in mplayer, only a certain one, I get an error:

Cannot find codec for audio format 0x56444152.

I've tried installing every possible codec I can think of, all to no avail
    Operating System: GNU Emacs

Does Xine handle it at all? Is it possibly a corrupt file?

Xine won't handle it, says that it cannot load the file, just tried it at work, and it works on windows.

I can probably just find a different version of the file, everything else is playing correctly now after my codec fest, just this one.

In which format is the audio track of this avi ?
    Code:
    file themovie.avi
Are you using the latest MPlayer codecs package ?

On Etch, the one from Marillat's repository (w32codecs) should be up-to-date anyway.

hmm, the file command returns "data"

    *scratches head*

adding that repository to update mplayer codecs
