try running alsaconf (if you get command not found install alsa-utils). Alsaconf should find your soundcard. Once that is done, run alsamixer and make sure it is not mutted.

Hello friends,
tahnks for replying...
i couldn't find any command like alsaconf...
i tried running system-config-soundcard.
when i ran that command, one messagebox popped up saying my sound card and a button "Play Test Sound"
when i click on it, this error msg occured and i couldn't hear anything...
Code:amixer: Unable to find simple control 'PCM-2',0 amixer: Unable to find simple control 'DRC Range',0 Playing WAVE '/usr/share/system-config-soundcard/sound-sample.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo
Any help ???

hi iam a newbie to linux and having the same problem as rohan_nakar i get the same come up any help would be nice.my laptop is a LG K1-224A with a Realtek AC97sound card and thanks

Check the ALSA website for the list of supported soundcards, maybe there isn't a driver for yours?
