try running alsaconf (if you get command not found install alsa-utils). Alsaconf should find your soundcard. Once that is done, run alsamixer and make sure it is not mutted.

    try running alsaconf
Last time I checked Fedora didn't have alsaconf, not even with alsa-utils installed. Try with system-config-sound

Ubuntu did that too. Evidently alsaconf is a real hacky way to do it... but it was so useful.

    Hello friends,

    tahnks for replying...

i couldn't find any command like alsaconf...

    i tried running system-config-soundcard.
when i ran that command, one messagebox popped up saying my sound card and a button "Play Test Sound"
when i click on it, this error msg occured and i couldn't hear anything...

    Code:
amixer: Unable to find simple control 'PCM-2',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control 'DRC Range',0

Playing WAVE '/usr/share/system-config-soundcard/sound-sample.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo

    Any help ???

Check the ALSA website for the list of supported soundcards, maybe there isn't a driver for yours?
