No Sound After Update - FC6
After an update a few days ago, I have no sound. I'm not sure if it was a package that messed with my alsa setup or what but I haven't been able to hear anything from any app ever since. I know my speakers are still alright, I can hear everything on other systems but I'm not really sure how to go about troubleshooting this. I've googled a little bit but haven't found anything relevant. The output of alsacard is 0 so I tried alsaunmute 0 -s 84 but that didn't seem to change anything. I've also checked all of the levels in alsamixer and they all seem normal as well. I'm hoping someone with a little more experience with audio can help me out here.

I'm going to give this thread a bump in the vain hope that someone will be able to help me out. It's really annoying not having any sound.

re: No sound after fc6 upgrade
I just solved a similar problem. I have a dual boot system (Windows/FC6) and an ATI HDTV card I use with Windows. FC6 was loading drivers for the card (which it misidentified) that conflicted with the sound driver. Things worked fine under fc5 before I upgraded, since the card was installed after fc5 was installed and was never detected by fc5.
You can list the modules Linux loads using the lsmod command and edit the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and blacklist-compat files to add the names of any drivers you don't want loaded. After a reboot I had sound back. I assume other device/driver conflicts could cause similar problems with sound.
Hope this helps,
Tom
