Multiple sound streams
Slackware 9.1, alsa.
I'm coming to the conclusion that running alsa is not going to let 2 apps connect to the soundchip at the same time. I've read about JACK and installed it but am getting errors trying to start it.
Any other ways of getting multiple streams in linux?

If you use KDE, you can use artsd soundserver to let several apps use the sound at the same time. Same goes for GNOME and esd.
Good luck
