I've dabbled with a couple of text-based Java games. Is there something in particular you want to know?

I just want to start getting into this. I was hoping if anyone knew any forums that were made specifically for homebrew games.

Heh, not much, my school only taught visual basic 6. So it was the only programming language I have actually made a game on. However, I know a little C. Just enough to make like little calculator programs and stuff, lol.

I recommend starting a language and sticking with it. What kind of applications/games are you looking to make?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to make a recommendation and I need some more info.Looking for a distro? Look here.

No, no, that's cool. I hope I can eventually make 3d games (shooters and stuff), but for starters, I would like to make 2d games like breakout or tetris.
