    automated audio recording

I'm looking for a way to record from a sound card's line-in input on a scheduled basis.
For example every day, between 9am and noon, record from line-in and save the file to the hard drive with a given naming convention.
I'm wondering if anyone has seen an application that does this, or if people think it would be easier/better to write some sort of script to do it.
    Thanks in advance.

The above are links that describe automated recording of broadcast radio which are probably closest to what I'm doing.
