    Unable to blank CD-RW

    Hi folks,

    Ubuntu Desktop 7.04
    Gnome desktop
    k3b

I have tried more than an hour and can't erase the CDRW nor to burn iso image on it by force.

Start K3b as user. On inserting the CDRW on the tray it mounts automatically. I select [force] to burn it. Failed with warning

What version of k3b and what kernel are you running?

Have you tried erasing it by command line just to see if that works?

    Yes, without solution.

    Edit:
Burning iso image on CD-RW works w/o problem.

    I think this is a bug;

    Bug #114122 in cdrkit (Ubuntu)
    Burner not working in 7,04

If you can't get cdrecord to blank the disk by command line using this command:

    Code:
    cdrecord -v dev=/dev/hdc -blank=fast

(replace /dev/hdc with the name of your recording device)
...then it sounds like something might be wrong with cdrecord or the disk itself rather than K3b.

The reason I asked about the version for K3b and kernel is that with kernel version 2.6.20 and above, they changed the naming scheme of devices from an IDE format to a SCSI format. Lots of users are having various problems that are caused by the changes. I was thinking your problem might be related to that since you are running the 2.6.20 kernel.

I had some problems with cdrkit myself, but a package upgrade fixed that.
