try to find a small icon for ut2004 over the internet using google.the make a link to the desktop using link -s /home/carlwill/ut2004/<the executable for starting the game> /home/Desktop and then change the image with this you've downloaded..this is a way to do that...

Well, that's not entirely accurate. For one thing, the command is `ln', not `link', and the desktop directory would be /home/carlwill/Desktop, not /home/Desktop.
Even so, however, it might be a better choice to create a .desktop file for it. That's kind of the equivalence to Windows shortcuts, and in particular, there is a GUI for creating them. I have no idea how to do it in KDE, though, since I don't use KDE. In GNOME, you would just right-click on the desktop and choose "Create Launcher...".
