All my dvd's play fine in mplayer except for one. This is the only dvd I have made by sony pictures.
I am wondering if there is a possible connection between these two facts? The copyright on the DVD says 2005 if that makes any difference.

The connection you allude to is there, and not only with sony.
Try VLC, just don't mess around with configuration files in Advanced Settings until adept with it.

In my case I also had a major difference between using windows, which wouldnt play them and Linux which would.
