Although Audacity does everything I need it will just not work on my laptop. I've tried with about 5 distros and Audacity always produces a severely distorted recording. Plus with Ubuntu, my current distro Audacity refuses to recognise the OSS as the audio playback.
Other audio apps like gizmo and skype work fine.
But is there anything like audacity that can record directly from the line in?

xmms and audacity look nearly identical. Audacity is usually the preffered one since xmms is no longer in development. I dont know the status of xmms2.Quote:

I think you've mixed up Audacity and Audacious! I did a while back when Iinstalled Audacious mistakenly and wondered where Audacity had gome.

Well, have you tried the latest beta which uses ALSA instead of OSS?
You can have a look at ubuntustudio. Also Rosegarden: music software for Linux and ardour | the new digital audio workstation. One more:jacklab. It might be a latency problem as well

Ardour requires Jack audio server which I don't have. Not sure if I want to add it as eveything else audiowise is working and I don't trust meself to cock things up :D
JackLab is interesting but my lappy is an all round item and don't really want to specialise.
