Which distro would people reccomend for audio + music production?
Mainly, which distro has a good number of audio apps (hydrogen, audacity, midi stuff) in their repositories for installation?
I am currently on fedora core 4, but am wondering whether debian will have a larger and more accesible range of progs to try out?
Anyone care to share experiences?
If you're doing serious audio work then you'll need a linux kernel tweaked for low latency.
You could have a look at the distros on the Agnual Project page.
Dynebolic would also be worth a look at.
I've not used it but I understand Blag is good in this regard.
I myself use linux for the opensource multimedia/graphics apps. I just installed Blag and am very happy with it. It's just what I was looking for, fast and had all the applications I was going to get anyways, without the extra software I didn't want. The install/hardware configuration was less than a 2 hour process.
I'm addicted to trying out new flavors that sound appealing :-)
