Kaffeine (And Xine in general I suppose) disagreeing with MKV files

Good day,

Issue with Xine and Kaffeine in general. I've got a bunch of MKV files here which seem fine/intact and all but in xine and kaffeine the sound doesn't play. From looking it seems to be ogg vorbis audio which puzzles me as to why it doesn't work. I'm especially puzzled by the fact it works perfectly in mplayer which told me this about it.

Also... while I'm unsure as to what effect this would have (almost sure it doesn't but whatever) the file has video, subtitles and two audio tracks which Kaffeine knows are there because it lets me select them but still no audio (Subtitles work BTW).

I don't know the cause, but I know a solution. I switched to using kplayer/mplayer instead. I only use Kaffeine/Xine for playing DVDs, since kplayer/mplayer doesn't handle DVD menus.

I know mplayer works... I use that... just that being able to use Kaffeine is somewhat of a preference.

Try Kplayer. It's another KDE application, like Kaffeine, but with mplayer as the backend.

Or smplayer.


I don't know what the problem in xine is. Probably is some kind of odd distro thing. Maybe, try building xine yourself.

I've ended up getting KMPlayer - I'd like to use xine instead but it seems that it's a bug in the program so it's certainly nothing I can fix.
