Timezone problem

Everything is configured just fine but when I do uname -a the computer mess' up the timezone. I've tried to set it again and no effect. Any idea whats up?
Code:
insomnia zoneinfo # ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/EST5EDT /etc/localtime
insomnia zoneinfo # ntpdate time.nist.gov
Looking for host time.nist.gov and service ntp
host found : time.nist.gov
 2 Sep 14:34:43 ntpdate[17877]: step time server 192.43.244.18 offset 4.784288 sec
insomnia zoneinfo # uname -a

Hmm.... the only thing I can think of is maybe try an env-update after running the timezone command, but I don't remember having to do that ever.
