saivin Linux User Join Date: Dec 2008 Location: Bengaluru, India Posts: 294	[SOLVED] MOC (Music On Console) does not list .mp3s. Oggs play fine. Hi, I installed MOC and am trying to play mp3 files. It does not even list them. It just shows my main music directory and all the subdirectories. On the otherhand .ogg files play fine. I presume its not related to any USE flag or libraries coz, I have mp3, mpeg, ogg, vorbis, ffmpeg, etc in USE flag and have also installed xine-lib, win32codecs etc. Please note that the mp3 files play fine in Xfmedia. Only MOC has problem. On MOC forum, somebody had similar problem (with opensuse system) and he himself solved the problem by installing 'libmad-devel' package. I installed 'libmad' but still the problem is present. I did not find 'libmad-devel' or 'libmad-dev'. Put 'mad' in use flag and re-emerged moc. Now, moc lists .mp3 files. But when I play a file, it says: can't get decoder... What else am I missing? Just keep these points in the back of your mind: a) now moc can see mp3 files but says it can't find decoder (before it could not even see an mp3. b) mp3 is playing fine with Xfmedia all this time. Code: media-sound/moc aac alsa ffmpeg flac mad vorbis curl -debug jack libsamplerate modplug musepack sid sndfile -speex timidity wavpack this worked for me ... not sure minimum combination actually required - I guess you can optimise this yourself. Let us know if it works for you. I tried this on my desktop system which is 32 bit.

i92guboj Linux Engineer Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Córdoba (Spain) Posts: 1,495	The "mad" flag is all you should need for mp3, I am not sure what the problem could be. Re-emerge libmad and try to use "revdep-rebuild", maybe libmad is broken or something...

Did rebooting do the trick(shutdown system yesterday night and switched on now. )? I had compiled Xfmedia after moc and it worked like charm without rebooting or even logout-login...! Anyway, thanks for the 'mad' suggestion Jonathan. i92guboj, 'revdep-rebuild' is not working. It says command not found.
