'No KDM In' error

Hello,

I'm having a very, very serious problem, I'm not new to linux, but I'm new to gentoo based systems and I cannot find anything on the internet about this. I just emerged kmix and restarted and am presented with the error 'No KDM in:' then a list of directories. I tried dpkg-reconfigure kdm, with the error 'command not recognised'.

what should I do? I do not have internet connection, I have no idea what to do!

system is a vostro 1000 with 2.0 AMD Sempron 3600+ with 1GB of memory, no problems with Ubuntu at all.

thanks for any help,

MM

You need to get the Internet working before you can proceed from here. What kind of network card do you have? Post the output of
Code:
lspci |grep -i net
See this link for Gentoo Networking

Make sure you have emerged kdm, see this link for "Configuring KDE".

dpkg-reconfigure kdm
dpkg is specific to Debian and Debian based systems like Ubuntu.

I don't think dpkg-reconfigure is available for Gentoo. It'd be nice if it did though.

As other said, dpkg has nothing to do with gentoo. Other than that, kdm and kmix are completely unrelated.

If you truly expect help, you will have to describe the problem better. Right now I have no idea what your problem is, but you can post a few things so we can start thinking about it, for example, the output for these:

Code:
emerge -pv kdm
grep DISPLAYMANAGER /etc/conf.d/xdm
PS: Sorry but I had to ask, are you truly using Gentoo?
