Hi,
I've tried to install fbsplash in my gentoo installation (like the one in the gentoo live distribution: very very nice!); I've emerged fbsplash and added the support to the kernel (option CONFIG_FB_SPLASH); but when I recompile the kernel, the message "xxx theme not found" suggest me that something didn't go right. When I reboot with the new kernel no enhanced console seems to be activated.
Note: I'm using kernel 2.6, so I think I don't need to patch its sources to support fbsplash... Am I wrong?
on a sidenote, make sure you have activated the following options in your kernel
Code:
===> device drivers
===> block devices
<*> RAM disk support
(16) Default number of RAM disks
(4096) Default RAM disk size (kbytes)
[*] Initial RAM disk (initrd) support
and
Code:
===> device drivers
===> graphics support
<*> Support for Frame Buffer Devices
.....
.....
.....
<*> VESA VGA Graphics Support
VESA driver type (vesafb-tng)
( ) VESA Default Mode <<< make damn sure that is blank :P
======> console display driver support
<*> framebuffer console support
<*> support for framebuffer splash
From what I understand, it doesn't NEED initrd, you'll just get the splash image a little sooner...
That said, I can't get it to work at all. No errors, it just doesn't work.
