Gentoo on scsi drive problem

I'm trying to install Gentoo on a scsi drive. Everything went ok until I had to copy distfiles. Then I just got an error message about hda and I/O. But there is no hda on my system. I partitioned the drive successfully and Gentoo recognized the drive as /dev/sda. What is the problem here?
