rsync problems All the time

Weedman Linux Enthusiast Join Date: May 2005 Location: Tasmania, Australia Posts: 640	rsync problems All the time I have been having issues with rsync on Gentoo (syncing the portage tree) for a while now. I think this may be caused by Ipcop blocking the port, but I have forwarded and allowed external access to the rsync port, and it doesn't make a difference. It buggers up just after it deletes the old ebuilds. This is the error message I got: Code: deleting x11-wm/windowmaker/files/digest-windowmaker-0.80.2-r2 rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes [generator]: Broken pipe (32) rsync error: received SIGUSR1 (code 19) at main.c(1095) [receiver=2.6.8] rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(1121) [generator=2.6.8] >>> Retrying... And it will do that forever. Is ipcop to blame, or is this an issue with Gentoo itself? Ummm....I haven't had any problems with sync'ing my portage tree.

It suggests a number of steps. I'm behind a firewall and a router, and I've not had an issue, which leads me to believe that the error is either your end or the host you're connecting to. It is running on non-standard ports, so that could be it, or it was just using too much bandwidth. I am wondering about my host, as it used to perform perfectly. No issues. I am going to send off an email to my ISP, cause i've been having severe DNS issues. Join Date: Oct 2006 Posts: 1	Rsync problems Weedman, Having the same problems - "rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(1121)", or "Invalid filed index 10485760 (count 20445) rsync err...." My rsync'ing between two computers (all within my home network between an Infrant NV and a Gentoo Linux box) has been perfect up until a few days ago. My gentoo portage and emerge world are all up to date. Can't seem to figure it out. yachtman

Let rsync go through twice, cancel it, then do emerge --metadata. 2. Do emerge-webrsync That often is a good alternative. Personally, I use the first method. I just find it that bit more interesting.
