minimal install cannot bring up eth0
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to install Gentoo 2007.0 minimal on my desktop following with Gentoo Linux X86 Handbook. However my network card is not working, thou I googled on this and found a little info, but still it doesn't work.
I ran net-setup eth0 and configured IP and Gateway manually, and ifconfig shows that everything is OK, but I cannot ping my Router and LEDs on the LAN card are not blinking at all
My LAN card is Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet Controller, and I found out that the module I need is skge, so I did modprobe skge, and then ifconfig eth0 up, and still it's dead
Please help me

Ok, it must be some kind of a kernel problem, tried to install the driver manually, no luck hence it works fine in Gentoo LiveCD. problem solved

Did you try installing dhcpcd?

Yes I did, no luck thou. As I said, LAN card does not even show any lights, neither green nor orange. When I boot Gentoo LiveCD, the network adapter works just fine, but with Minimal install, it's completely dead.
ifconfig eth0 up does not bring it up, but ifconfig eth0 shows me info about the device and when I try to ping anything, even my gateway, it says Host is unreacheable

Are you referring to the minimal install cd?
If so, it probably just doesn't have the driver you need.
You can install using the Gentoo livecd. How to know if you are a geek.

In Gentoo Handbook I followed minimal install. LiveCD works, so I'm quite happy for that
thanks for your time replying, I appreciate it
