You probably overwrote /etc/conf.d/xdm when doing etc-update.

A rule of thumb: note down on a piece of paper or a notebook every single file you edited by hand under /etc. So, you know that that file needs special attention when you are doing etc-update.

Edit that file, and change DISPLAYMANAGER="xdm" to whatever your preffer (probably gdm).

    Thanks,

I had solved this problem by input DISPALYMANAGER="gdm" into /etc/rc.conf
