Windows Installation CD doesn't work after Linux installation in a few machines and one has to remove GRUB first. Boot up from SuperGRUB CD and select Fix Windows Boot Loader option. Windows Installation CD will work after that.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

i used the SUPERGRUB CD and it worked but then the winxp installation didnt recognize any hard drives...
i tried doing live swap but it didnt work. any ideas?

Is the drive SATA? there can be problems with either BIOS setup or needing the driver for XP.

i have no idea.... its a laptop. i have no idea if the drive is SATA....

Try
and check interface type andCode:lspci -v
should give hard drive information.Code:sudo hdparm -i /dev/sda
