Can I install Gentoo WITHOUT messing up my windows XP install???
I want to install Gentoo Linux but I have windows XP here that I cannot mess up... can I still install Gentoo???

You can install as many distros as you like untill you have free space and partition. I have Windows XP + 6 Linux distros in my test machine.
Create two new partitions, ext3 for / and a SWAP partition.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

A good practice in my opinion is to create a /home partition as well. It is the "equivalent" of My Documents/Documents and Settings, made right. This means that you can reinstall Gentoo in the future or upgrade to a newer version and your files will be in their place as well as your configuration files for your applications!
