well the thing about gentoo is that it's not a vanilla install, so its optimized for whichever architechture and system you have. so it can really adapt to anything and make it faster.

ah ok, that is interesting.....so I guess as you install, you choose the hardware that you have. I am thinking of installing it on an old Pentium 200. I hope it will still run without any problems

I have gentoo running very nicely on a 486 which acts as a fileserver (no monitor) with gentoo it really does not matter what you install it on (i have a 386 but hte scsi hard disk is only 40mb :)) the only thing you need to watch out for is hard disk capacity as with gentoo you will need several GB - 5gb is probably an absolute minnimum.
