your talking about configuring fluxbox or configuring X11 to run fluxbox??

All I know is that I emerged xorg-x11 fluxbox last night and it was finished when I woke up. Had to go to school so I wasn't able to mess much. I just need the GUI to run when the computer starts up.
I used Mandrake before this so switching to Gentoo is a big step.

If I have understood your problem correctly, all you have to do is edit/create the ~/.xinitrc and add:
orCode:exec fluxbox
dependign on the version of flux you installed.Code:exec startfluxbox
the, just startx on the command line.
If you haven't configured X yet, just run xorgconfig

just use your favorite text editor (like vi, vim, emacs, etc..)
i use: vi ~/.xinitrc
