    Newcompiling of gentoo nesassary?

    Hi !

I installed gentoo-level2-stage on an Intel CPU and compiled all programs with optimized flags for P4 with HT. now i bought an AMD64 and i want to know if i can keep running my gentoo system. of course i need to compile an other kernel but change the CFLAGS.

and what about running 32-bit programs? i read on gentoo.org that gentoo has an 32-bit emulation for that. but is this necessary? the AMD64 is a full 32-bit and 64-bit CPU.

    thanks in advance

you will probably need to recompile everything if you used -march= (it breaks CPU compatibility).

best thing would probably be to nuke everything except /home and /etc, then reinstall.

Just follow the A64 installation handbook:
