I am trying to boot the live cd., the full version(587 MB)
I typed "gentoo", then it starts to boot up, stops at runlevel 3,
I typed "startx", command not ...

I am trying to boot the live cd., the full version(587 MB)
I typed "gentoo", then it starts to boot up, stops at runlevel 3,
I typed "startx", command not found
I typed "init 5", then it says "switching to runlevel 5"
Then right after this I get
*stopping input hotplugging
*stopping pci hotplugging
*stopping USB hotplugging
then I get a blinking cursor and it just hangs their
I do have a Logitech cordless optical USB mouse, could this be the problem?
Any help is appreciated, if more information is needed, let me know.How to know if you are a geek.

which livecd are you using? (minimal, universal?)

universal, the Gentoo website said this should take 650 MB, but mine only uses 587 MB

ummm.. there's no X server on a gentoo liveCD. they're used for installs only. (and a handy recovery disk.)
Their code will be beautiful, even if their desks are buried in 3 feet of crap. - esr

you can install stage3 though, and then, if you have the time, set it to recompile everything like this:

I did read the manual, it says that their is a full version of Gentoo on the disk. To me that means a GUI, I was corrected.
And what is up with the CAPS LOCK. And what is "disponible"How to know if you are a geek.
