Hi when ever i type in gentoo for the kernel it gets to the part where it says mounting root device then some msg apperas hundreds of times and it goes to fast to see when i type in smp it works fine tho( no i dont have dual processors ) but not only that my nic card isnt detected to finnish the install i try pinging google.com and i get uknown host. My card is made by 3com and its ISA its the 3COM etherlink 3

booting the smp kernel just means loading kernel 2.6 as opposed to 2.4 have you tried the steps detalied in the gentoo handbook for network initilization? It's more likely that the network is not set up properly than the actual card not being supported.
- 02-06-2005 #3And as of 2004.3, the default kernel is 2.6 and there is no separate SMP kernel.
