I tried unmerging gnome like this
All it does is get rid of a few python lib's that are not particualy needed....my guess is you have to list several gnome components to unmerge it allCode:emerge --unmerge gnome

OK ive decided im gonna do another fresh install of gentoo, which will give me a evening and a day to kill...

I found a way yesterday which seemed to get rid of all the gnome-enviroment:
If you intend to run gnome-apps which is allready installed, or dependency-problems should arrise afterwords, try running this command:Code:su cd /usr/portage/gnome-extra/ emerge unmerge * cd /usr/portage/gnome-base/ emerge unmerge *
Code:emerge --deep --newuse -u --ask world

Hehe, thanks that will help in future, im using links2 at the moment ive started the install. The only de im having is gnome

Yeah, are you 'merging gnome this time too or are you going for KDE this time? I reinstalled gentoo 5 times my self, three of them was (at least partially) succesfull...

Hmm im gonna stick with what I like best, umm can you give us the code to emerge gnome 2.10? cheers

Note: If I was using firefox, (I hate links), I would scope gentoo-wiki and get it myself..CoolMa homeboy is Jesus himself.
