If you follow the manual, and don't deviate from the manual, and follow the manual.
You should be O.K.
What I did was printed out the manual, so I had it right in front of me.
Be warned though, it is 90 pages or so.
Or have a computer with the manual open next to the one you are installing on.
But we will be here to answer any questions you can't resolve on your own.
And there is almost always somebody inthe IRC that knows about Gentoo installations.
Did I mention that you should follow the handbook. How to know if you are a geek.
when you respond to "get a life!" with "what's the URL?"

I'd just like to add that you should follow the handbook, to the letter. Right now they have two handbooks for us regular folk, the "x86 handbook" (or install manual) and a separate, more current version, the "2005.0 x86 handbook". If you're installing the latest one (2005.0 as I write this), follow the 2005.0 handbook.
Oh, and follow the handbook.
