well i have installed vmware and trying to install gentoo on this thing but it wont work
"For this section we assume you are using a 2.6.x kernel. To start configuration:
# cd /usr/src/linux
# make menuconfig
from this tutorial http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Install...ndows_NT/2K/XP
it doesn't wanna go further after # make menuconfig it just says
-/bin/bash: make: command not found
why???

OK first off it is
not cd / usr /src/linux or whatever you were doing before, /usr/src/linux is where your kernel is located so change directories to it correctly and "make menuconfig"Code:cd /usr/src/linux

Did you bootstrap the system?
You don't have "make" installed...what Stage installation is this?
Also, use the official docs at:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml (for x86)

At this point I'm wondering if he did the install correctly.. make should already be on his system shouldn't it? I never recall having to emerge make for it to be on my system. Definately read the docs and Google. Joining Gentoo Forums might not be too bad of an idea also, but keep in mind that these guys don't have a whole lot of patience.Registered Linux user #393103
